The African Union (AU) said Tuesday it had launched an online knowledge management platform.
The AU Commission has made its foray into the cyber world by officially unveiling its online Knowledge Management (KM) platform of the African Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF), said a statement from the pan-African bloc. The knowledge management platform has been set up in response to the overwhelming request of the African internet stakeholders especially during the 6th African and the Global Internet Governance Forums (IGF) held in December 2017 in Egypt and Switzerland respectively.
“The platform is connected to the resources of the African IGF website (https://www.afigf.africa),” said, Moctar Yedaly, Head of Information Society in the Department of Infrastructure and Energy of AU. “It will also serve as a space for regular exchange of views and information as well as for better planning and implementation of Africa-related ICT and Internet Governance programs of the African Union Commission, the Regional Economic Communities and member States for policy preparation process on Internet matters,” Yedaly added.Through the knowledge management platform, which is active with multiple communities and forums, stakeholders would help address the ICT challenges in general and the internet policy issues in particular. This, ideally, should help establish common African positions on various issues, said the statement.
