A mass funeral has been held for 27 school children who died in a fatal bus crash in northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh Monday, officials said.
Apart from the children, the driver and two teachers were also killed when their school bus rolled into a deep gorge in Kangra, 325 km from state capital Shimla. The bus was transporting 40 students of Wazir Ram Singh Pathania Memorial School in Nurpur to their homes.”All the 27 children who died in the accident were cremated in a mass ceremony Tuesday. Most of them were below 10 years,” a police official said Wednesday. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his anguish over the deaths. “My prayers and solidarity with those who lost their near and dear ones in the accident,” his office tweeted. A probe has been launched to ascertain the cause of the accident.
