Nigeria former president, Shehu Shagari

The Ebonyi State APC gubernatorial candidate for the 2019 election and senator representing the Ebonyi South district, Senator Sonni Ogbuoji has described the late President Shehu Shagari as a symbol of democracy and unity if Nigeria.Ogbuoji said this in his condolence message to mourn the first elected President of Nigeria who passed on Friday and was laid to rest today, Saturday in his hometown, Shagari in Sokoto State..Shagari was sworn in as President of Nigeria on October 1, 1979 and left office through a military coup on December 31, 1983 two months into his second four years tenure.Ogbuoji said Shagari’s demise is like an end to the original era of true and pioneering democrats that cherished the unity of the nation and lived by that.He admonished politicians and all Nigeria to emulate Shagari’s simple lifestyle so devoid of desperate tendencies and the odd quest to place personal interest above national good.He challenged Nigerians to play by the rules next year during the elections to allow democracy to thrive and allow a peaceful nation as mark of respect for Shagari and what he lived for.The statement from Ogbuoji in the statement from his campaign media office condoled Nigeria, Sokoto State and Shagari’s immediate family and prayed God to grant the late teacher and politician eternal rest.
