In response to the outburst of Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed last week calling that there is nothing wrong about herdsmen hearing arms and calling out his Benue State counterpart, Samuel Ortom for chasing away Fulani herdsmen, Ortom has swooped on Mohammed in a blistering tirade.
Governor Ortom addressed the media in Makurdi Monday telling Nigerians that if any harm comes to him, the Bauchi governor should be held responsible. “If the herders that wrote to threaten my life succeed, Nigerians should not look far to find who did it because the attack on my person by Governor Mohammed is responsible.”
He said Mohammed justifying the killings by herdsmen who carry guns as proper self defense has made him and the people of his state more vulnerable in the hands of marauding herdsmen that had unleashed murder on Benue many times in clashes between them and farmers.
He alleged that a group claiming to be herdsmen or defending their interests have written him few days ago and sees the letter threatening his life as outcome of Mohammed targeted him.
Ortom stated that his Bauchi counterpart’s tirade emboldened the herdsmen to write and threaten his life and should accept responsibility if the herders that wrote him make good their threats.
He said Mohammed condoning herders killing other Nigerians and destroying their livelihood amount to encouraging them to kill more people of his Benue State.
