Nigerian police confirmed on Saturday nine kidnapped people have regained their freedom during a raid by security operatives in the country’s north state of Kaduna.
Mohammed Jalige, a police spokesperson in Kaduna, said in a statement that security forces also killed one bandit and arrested two others during the raid on a notorious bandit camp in the Sabon-Birnin forest in the Igabi area of the state on Friday.
Jalige said eight of the rescued victims have been reunited with their families after undergoing medical checkups at a police medical facility, and the other one sustaining a bullet injury was rushed to a hospital in the city of Kaduna, the state capital.
The northern part of Nigeria has witnessed a series of attacks by gunmen in recent months, with many civilians killed or kidnapped.
