The National Universities Commission (NUC) has asked the federal government to exclude lecturers from a circular against employment as it said there are not enough lecturers in close to 200 universities in Nigeria.

NUC in a report published in its journal and quoting a Deputy Executive Secretary, Chris Maiyaki said the shortage is palpable where only 100,000 lecturers teach over 2.1 million university students in the country.

The implication of the NUC position is that there is shortage of lecturers in the system and that needs to change in order to have more lecturers in the system.
