Crime and violence have continued unabated in the Orlu and Njaba areas of Imo State as criminals once again struck in Ubudom Atta, a community in the Njaba Local Government Area of the state.

The attackers yet to be identified were reported to have killed a man of 65 years,  Nnoruka Onyeokwu who was reportedly beheaded and his severed head hung at the premises of the town’s primary school.

In the last week of 2021 and the first week of January 2022, the attacks were at the Umutanze community of Orlu LGA, spilling over to Akata, a nearby community. The attacks that reportedly left over seven persons dead was said by natives to have been launched by operatives of the state local vigilante, Ebube Agu.

Up till now, members of the community are still leaking their wounds silently after houses were also burnt down and buildings were broken into in an attack the villagers said was targeted at just everybody and anybody.

The latest incident in Atta was on Saturday and left the natives in panic as they cowered in fear all through the night while the attack and gunshots lasted.

To compound their fears, they woke up the following morning to be confronted by the unusual and bizarre sight of the head of their kinsman hanging on a post at the school premises.

A community leader revealed on Monday that the victim was attacked in his house in the night and the villagers woke up the next day to see his severed head.

“The man was attacked at night in his house. People woke up the next morning to see his cut-off head displayed at the primary school. Nobody knows the attackers or why he was beheaded. The community is in panic. People are running away because of the fear of the unknown. This is very unfortunate.”

The spokesperson for the police in the state, Micheal Abattam, had yet to respond to an inquiry on the murder incident as of the time of filing this report.
