It was the day the 4-day China Commodities Expo Expo-Nigeria commenced. The catchline of the economic event is: Made in China, Made for Africa.
For the days it will last, the Landmark Event Centre in the Oniru district of Lagos Island will witness a surge of partnerships, new business opportunities, and contracts between the two countries.
As we took a tour of the sprawling exhibition ground, we interacted with tens of Chinese companies most of whom were first-time visitors to Nigeria to seek new markets for their products and new opportunities for partnerships and investments.
Some of the participants said they were optimistic that the trade expo would open new investment and trade windows between the two countries.
Many of the exhibitors are manufacturers of goods, industrial equipment, and machinery, household items, building materials, oil and gas equipment, automobiles, and many more.
We also observed that most of the companies are based in the Shandong Province of China and some others from Zhejiang Province, two major industrial belts of the country.
The business people were enthusiastic to speak with our team of reporters who sought their opinions on the possibilities of setting up new business outlets in Nigeria, including manufacturing.
While few of them already have business contacts, importers, and representatives in Nigeria, most of them are entirely new and seeking new grounds.
