A statement from the ruling APC asking Labour Party presidential candidate in the February 2023 election, Peter Obi to offer President Bola Tinubu ideas on how to fix the economy is causing anger.
Nigerian netizens on reading the statement and call descended on the APC and asked it to hand over power if it lacks ideas on what to do with the position.
During a live interview on Channels TV, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, asked the two presidential candidates of the opposition Obi and Abubakar Atiku, candidate of the PDP in the election to suggest ideas to Mr Tinubu not just condemn what the government is doing to address economic hardship in the country.
In response to the news on the Instagram page of Sahara Reporters, about 850 netizens poured invectives and mocked the APC for “rigging itself into power without ideas on what to do with the power and position to fix Nigeria.”
A reader, victorokpalan wrote: “I thought Obi was just a trader with only warehouse economics.”
To manmarv, it was mockery and ridicule as she wrote “Supreme Court and INEC should give him ideas”, in the reference that the two agencies of government were responsible for the moves that gave APC power.
Olaniyi_95 asked “No be una talk say we need his brain, not his age. Don’t let me say there is nothing inside the brain”, a laughter emoji. However, princeoyeg, another reader added “Let him resign honourably and hand over power to Obi who won the election.”
Ola.abdulsherif said “Ridiculous. You don’t become the president because you think it is your turn. The country us crumbling.”
Onyi_001 chided the ruling party that “if APC knows how them take rig the election, they should also rig the dollar to bring to down N30 per dollar.”
Omohjay, another reader among others interjected “Hahahaha, with laughter emoji, listen to these clowns. Their goal was to be in power and not to govern, the reason why the president has been travelling aimlessly. All ministers looting our treasury. Directionless government,” while d4life_official noted “So this is what our presidency has turned into? Occupied by people without ideas on how to move the country forward.”
To dayolowo, it is a simple question “I thought the president said he has the solution, and that we should not pity him,” just as lordceph joked “Hehehehehe…what will you do in your first day in office? Oga answered, ‘ I will hit the ground running. Na de race we dey so.”
Nigerians have been groaning especially since November last year as the naira went on a steady free fall to about N1550 to the US dollar this week from N750-N760 to the dollar when Tinubu took over power, a level that put the citizens through pains.
Due to the dependence of Nigeria’s manufacturing and consumption on the importation of raw materials and finished goods, the cost of every item depends so much on the fluctuation of the naira at the forex.
The first statement Tinubu made at his inauguration was the floating of naira to the vagaries of market forces and the removal of fuel subsidy that instantly jerked up the pump price of OMS from N186 to an average of N620 per litre. Due to the dependence on every commodity and services on transportation, the inflation rate took a flight and subjected Nigerians to so much pain and hardship which they think has no reprieve yet.
