The Ebonyi State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill to delist Amasiri Development Center from the state’s list of 64 development centers.

The bill, which was passed during an emergency session, is part of the government’s decisions to address the ongoing crises in the area.
During a state broadcast on Sunday, Governor Ogbonnaya Nwifuru of Ebonyi State had stated that the Development Centre will be scrapped through an executive bill.

The passage of the bill reduces the number of development centers in Ebonyi State to 63. The move is seen as a significant step towards resolving the conflict in the area and promoting lasting peace.

The Ebonyi State government had earlier requested the repeal of the law establishing Amasiri Development Center, citing security concerns and the need to restore peace to the community.

The development comes after a series of violent attacks in Okporojo village, Oso-Edda, Edda Local Government Area, which resulted in the loss of lives and property.

A member of the House of Assembly confirmed to ACE Magazine that the development is valid and true.
Even though he would not want to be quoted as he is not the spokesman of the House, he confirmed that the House successfully repealed the law and struck off the Amasiri council as promised.
