Insecurity in the northern part of Nigeria is spreading panic and terribly locking down the society.
This is after about five major attacks in schools and churches that led to deaths and abductions of school children, church members and others in states of Kebbi, Niger, Kwara and Katsina.
In a response of panic, the federal government has ordered the closure of 47 Unity Secondary Schools, especially in northern Nigeria.
The FG said the order is a measure to ensure the safety of students and slow down the casualty index of the attacks.
The directive is contained in a circular dated 21 November and signed by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Binta Abdulkadir.
It mandates principals of the affected schools, most of them in northern Nigeria, to “suspend academic activities and release students with immediate effect.”
Late Sunday night, terrorists attacked a boarding school in Maga Kebbi State and abducted 25 school girls while also killing the vice principal.
Again, on Thursday early hours, another set of school children and workers were abducted in a Catholic School in Agwara LGA of Niger State.
Spokesman of the council said over 100 persons, including teachers and students were taken captive.
The incident was preceded by an attack at a church in Kwara State where members in a church service were killed and some others taken hostage by the criminals.
This week has been particularly bloody and tense in Nigeria, especially at the North West region with killings, raids and made abductions.
