On behalf of the entire Edda clan, the Nzuko Edda General Assembly, the apex social cultural group of the Edda clan has sent a message of appreciation to Governor Ogbonnaya Nwifuru of Ebonyi State on his swift intervention in the violence people of Amasiri visited on Oso Edda.
A press statement signed by the Chairman of the Nzuko Edda Board of Trustees (BoT), Elder Sam Obasi and a member, Sir George Ukpai on Monday thanked the governor for living up to his mandate to ensure that peace rules in Edda land and that he wouldn’t watch them destroyed without consequences.
The statement was a sequel to the disturbances in Okporojo, Oso Edda where people from Amasiri raided the village, burned down houses and killed five persons, four of which they severed their heads and took the heads with them.
On January 31, Nwifuru announced a lot of measures to restore peace and calm and also ensure that the assailants face the full force of the justice system.
Obasi and Ukpai in their statement on behalf of the entire Edda clan noted that “Edda is profoundly grateful for the swift, decisive, and compassionate intervention of Governor Nwifuru.
The tragic attack on the peace-loving people of Okporojo in Idima Edda, which resulted in the gruesome murder of five innocent victims was needless
However, your prompt visit to Okporojo to assess the situation firsthand demonstrates exceptional leadership, empathy, and a deep sense of responsibility toward the safety and well-being of all citizens of Ebonyi State. We are particularly moved by the far-reaching measures you have taken to ensure justice, restore peace, and prevent a reoccurrence of such violence.
The decisive steps taken by your government have not only reassured the people of Edda but also reaffirmed your commitment to justice, equity, and the rule of law. Your actions have sent a clear message that violence and lawlessness will not be tolerated in Ebonyi State.
We wish to commend you highly for standing firm on the path of truth and for the empathy you have shown to the victims and families affected by the Amasiri massacre. Your leadership in this trying moment has strengthened our confidence in your administration and in the unity and peace of our dear state.
The people of Edda clan hereby reaffirm our unwavering loyalty and support to your government in every effort to ensure that peace rreturns to Edda and even in Amasiri, who are not only our neighbours but also kins people whom we least expected to take up arms against us.
