The Nigeria Police, Enugu Division have filed criminal charges of false information against a woman, Chisom Okonkwo who reported to the police in August 2024 that her husband sexually defiled their daughters.
After investigation, police found no substance in the allegations against Ozioma Okonkwo, the husband, and in turn this month filed the charges.
The two-count charges noted that the woman deliberately lied against her husband.
The woman, Chisom aged 29, trumped up the allegations against the husband whom the police later discovered to be innocent after making a public show of him on social media where his imagine was ruined, ridiculed and maligned.
Charge count one noted that “you Chisom Okonkwo, female, sometime in August 2024 along Adoration Junction, opposite Dan Legal Hotel, in Emene Enugu did defame the character of one Okonkwo Ozioma, male, by shouting in the public that he defiled your two daughters, which has exposed him to hatred, contempt, ridicule, and has damaged his reputation, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 323 and punishable under Section 325 of the Criminal Code, Cap 10, Vol II, Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria, 2004.”
The second charge indicated that on “the 27th day of October, 2025 at the State Intelligence Department, Enugu you did give false information to the police detectives that one Okonkwo Ozioma defiled your two daughters, which made the police officers to arrest and detain him, the information you knew to be false, and an action they wouldn’t have taken if the true facts were made known to them, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 154(1)(a)&(b) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Law of Enugu State of Nigeria, 2004”
The matter is before the Magistrate’s Court, Enugu, and marked No. CMT/861c/2025 and between the Commissioner of Police and the accused person, Chisom Okonkwo.
