The presidency has dropped a planned Nigerian Manufacturers’ Summit that was to commence on Tuesday.

The indefinite postponement was conveyed to manufacturers who had in the second week of May been invited to participate in the economic policy strategy summit.

On Sunday, the body that was to host the Summit which was billed to be chaired by the Vice President, Kashim Shettima wrote to inform invited guests that the nationwide strike stands in the way.

The Director General of Manufacturers’ Association of Nigeria (MAN) Mr. Segun Ajayi-Kadir in the memo stated: “As you may be aware, the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress jointly declared a nationwide strike action scheduled to commence from tomorrow Monday 3rd June, 2024.

It is against this backdrop that we deeply regret to inform you that the Nigeria Manufacturers Summit, scheduled for 4th – 6th June, 2024, had to be postponed due to the prevailing uncertainty surrounding the declaration of the strike.

This very painful decision was made in consideration of the safety and convenience of members, as well as the need to ensure that we have a well attended and successful Summit.

We understand the inconvenience this postponement may cause, and we assure you that a new date for the summit will be communicated to you as soon as the situation stabilizes and we are already working with the Presidency to fix a new date.

Members and all attendees are therefore advised to open their flight tickets and reschedule for a later date that will be communicated to you in due course.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this postponement may cause and thank you for your usual kind understanding and continued support.”
